Author
Ali Hazelwood is an author from Italy who also lived in Japan and Germany before moving to America. There she pursued her PH.D in neuroscience and taught as a professor for three years before pursuing writing full time. When not reading or writing, Ali loves to binge watch shows with her three cats, crochet, and eat candy.
Plot
Olive Smith is a third year PH.D. candidate who doesn’t believe in lasting romantic relationships. But her best friend does. Olive needs to convince Anh that she’s well on her way to happily ever after so Anh can be happy herself. But like Olive, Anh is a scientist and will need proof. So, like any other self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees.
That man just happens to be Adam Carlson. A young hotshot professor feared by many for being an ass. Which is why Olive is shocked when the Stanford tyrant agrees to keep this charade a secret and continue to be her fake boyfriend. When a big science conference goes haywire, causing Olive’s future career to feel like it’s on a bunsen burner, Adam surprises her again with unyielding support and unyielding six pack abs.
Suddenly, their fake dating experiment feels close to combustion. And Olive discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope.
Quotes
“Carry yourself with the confidence of a mediocre white man.”
“I wish you could see yourself the way I see you.”
“I’m starting to wonder if this is what being in love is. Being okay with ripping yourself to shreds, so the other person can stay whole.”
“You kiss him and next thing you know he’s saving your ass and he’s buying you scones and calling you a smart-ass in a weirdly affectionate tone.”
My Review
I’ve heard nothing but great things about Ali Hazelwood and was so excited to finally read one of her books. I loved the Love Hypothesis so much that I’m annoyed with myself for not reading it sooner. I haven’t read many STEM romances but this book really made me want to read more. Adam’s character as the grumpy professor was perfect. Seeing that there was so much more to him and how long he’s wanted Olive was everything I wanted from his character. Olive was hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud multiple times from her dialogue and couldn’t get enough of her journey. Adam and Olive are so different but together they’re perfect and exactly what the other needs. I loved this fake dating, student/professor, grumpy/sunshine romance and rate it 5/5 stars.
And that’s the end of my The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood book review. If you read this book let me know in the comments and if you loved it as much as I did. If you’re looking for other books to read check out these reviews: Offside, Love, Beauty & Soul, and Holiday Ever After.
