Today is my 22nd birthday! I’m spending it pretty relaxed after spending the weekend in Jasper. That post will be coming soon so be on the lookout! I decided it would be a nice idea to let you guys know 10 things about me so here it goes.
1. Birthday
The title of the post! Today June 25th is my birthday! Today I am 22 and I will be singing Taylor Swift’s song 22 all year long haha. I’ve also asked for a Dairy Queen cake for my birthday cake so I’m excited to have that later!
2. Brother
I have a little bother named Brett. He’s only 3 years younger than me so we are pretty close. He just finished welding school and is currently doing awesome at a new job. He’s also a dirt bike racer. I love to watch him race but it is definitely nerve racking considering the amount of injuries he’s gotten. To be honest he’s lucky he hasn’t been hurt worse in a crazy sport like that. I haven’t seen him since last July so I’m really excited to go home in a few weeks to finally see him again and the rest of my family again.
3. Pastry School
Something else you may not know about me is I went to Pasty School. It was just a year course and I’m not a crazy pastry chef or anything now. I knew a little before I went there and I learned a lot there. It’s more of a hobby for me now. Something I find relaxing and love to do. By the way the dessert in the picture is a passion fruit mousse with a chocolate cake, raspberry coulis, a chocolate cookie, Chantilly cream, and fresh berries.
4. Surgery
A little under two years ago I had surgery on my skull. I forget the medical term for it basically I had extra parts of bone on my skull that was getting close to my sinuses so it had to be removed. Sorry if this freaks you out but the incision went from one ear over top of my head to the other ear. My mom counted and said there was about 80-100 stitches. I also had staples on my skin holding the bandage on which hurt really bad to take out! But the worse part had to be the IV’s which may sound crazy to most of you. I had one in each hand and I begged them to take one out cause why do I need both when nothings going in them? Unfortunately they made me keep the other one in case they needed to put some medicine through it. I had huge bruises on both hands from them.
Sleeping was horrible! I could only sleep on my back because of the stitches which I never do! And there was a cut on the back of my head. I’m assuming it was to keep my head still during the surgery but I had to lay on it which hurt a lot. Honestly sleeping was hard for months after. It really hurt my back laying on it that much. Another part that was horrible was they had to shave the front of my head to make the incision so I had to deal with that growing back for a while. But it’s all over now! This is definitely something I wanted to include in my 10 things about me post.
5. Broken Foot
When I was in grade 1 I was running around our house as children do and I tripped over the little piece of wood in between our doorway and broke my foot. Yes I broke my foot tripping inside our house haha. I’m not 100% sure which bone it is or what foot it was though. I was told that it was basically my toe but the bone that broke still required a full cast on my little foot and up my little calf. I absolutely hated it and I hated the crutches. No joke I just hoped around places because I hated them so much haha
6. Worked At An Antique Photo Studio
One of my first jobs was at an antique photo studio. I would dress people up and help pose them in the scenes we had which were; the 1980’s, Victorian, western, and pirates. It was a cool job and I took quite a few pictures there myself as well. I actually got a family picture done here when I was really young, maybe around 7 years old.
7. Born/Lived
I was born in Bangor Maine USA. When I was only a few years old we moved to New Brunswick Canada where my little brother was born. Shortly after that we settled in Prince Edward Island Canada where I lived until I was about 19 years old. I currently live in Edmonton Alberta Canada and am loving it here.
8. Salty Over Sweet
When I was younger I wanted everything sweet. I was hands down sweet over salty. However, as I’ve grown older I’ve become salty over sweet. Now I would much rather something deep fried and salty over something like chocolate.
9. Lived On An Apple Orchard
When I first moved to PEI we lived on an apple orchard. I didn’t really appreciate it that much at the time but now that I’m older I love that it happened. I can say that we had apple, pear, and plum trees. We also had bees that my dad took care of in his full bee outfit and made apple cider and candy apples. I still have yet to find an apple cider that compares to the one we made. I still remember going out to the barn where my dad made it. He would be pressing the apples and mixing in whatever else there was and my brother and I would just go over with a cup haha. We also had some woods in behind the orchard where we would skate on the little pond we had in the winter and also found some really old looking medicine bottles. And when I say old I mean old. Picture the oldest movie you’ve seen and the shape of bottle they had. That’s what they look like. I’m pretty sure my mom kept a few of them because they looked so cool.
10. Johnny
My boyfriend Johnny and I have been together for a month short of 5 years. We met in PEI where we both lived and moved here to Edmonton for his work. We’ve lived out here together 2 years now. He really is the greatest and I’m so lucky to have him.
