Author
Cara Bastone is a full time writer living in Brooklyn with her husband, son, and dog. She became a huge fan of romance novels when she found her grandmothers collection of Harlequin Romances in high school. Her goal with her work is to find the swoon in ordinary love stories and to write love stories featuring men who aren’t overcome with their own masculinity. Let’s be honest, men written by women are much better.
Plot
Eve Hatch lives in Brooklyn, not far from her best friend Willa. Her job isn’t her dream job but she’s in the right field and hoping her hard work will become noticed so she can be promoted to her dream job. Her last two relationships, both with disappointing guys named Derek failed. But she knows what to expect in her life. That is, until she becomes pregnant from a one night stand with a guy she met named Ethan.
This unplanned pregnancy causes a lot of issues in Eve’s life. Including issues with her best friend Willa. It’s Willa’s older brother Shep who steps up to help Eve through the pregnancy. But suddenly, Eve’s wondering if she feels more than just friendly feelings for Shep. And then of course, there’s the babies father Ethan to think about. Eve has nine months to figure out her life and feelings before everything changes.
Quotes
“It’s a lot of what motherhood is too. Moving from self-centered to other-centered.”
“A secret is only a secret if no one knows about it. What’s a secret that everyone knows but no one talks about? It’s shame.”
“Men are absolute buttheads and for the love of God, please don’t let them dictate your self-worth.”
“It hurts to realize that the world is so much bigger and more complicated than you thought it was. It’ll always hurt.”
My Review
Ready Or Not by Cara Bastone was a book I received for free on NetGalley and I loved it. Accidental pregnancy isn’t my favorite trope but I still really liked this book. I feel like a lot of books in this trope always have the father as the man you want the mother to end up with but this one had a different direction which was nice to see. Although, at times I couldn’t help but hope she would end up with the father of the baby as that’s what I’m used to with this trope. Shep as a male main character love interest was great though. Not your typical guy but all the personality and love you hope for in a partner. I would give this book 4/5 stars and would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves romance books and the accidental pregnancy trope.
And that’s the end of my Ready Or Not by Cara Bastone book review. If you read this book be sure to let me know in the comments if you liked it as much as I did. If you’re looking for other books to read check out these reviews: Barely Even Friends, Briar U Book Series, and The Perfect Rom-Com.
