Author

Avery Keelan is a Canadian author currently living in Alberta with her husband and two sons. She excels in writing hockey romances  and creating the hot hockey heroes you’ll fall in love with.

Plot

After Seraphina’s life goes sideways halfway through her freshman year, she’s forced to change colleges and move in with her brother and his two hockey playing roommates. She’s not excited about living with three athletes, surrounded by their stinky hockey gear, hookups, and their need to inhale all the food in the house. But when Seraphina walks in the front door, she’s shocked to see she recognizes one of her brothers roommates. He’s the tall tattooed stranger she hooked up with on Halloween and can’t stop thinking about.

Quotes

“Where whatever you want, Tink. I know how to fight.”

“Because my worst fear isn’t what I thought it was. It has nothing to do with hockey at all. It’s losing her.”

“In every partnership, there’s a person who stacks the dishwasher like a Scandinavian architect and a person who stacks the dishwasher like a raccoon on meth.”

“My father treated my mother like a queen. I’m not about to drop my standards for some guy named Tripp who can’t be bothered to change an empty toilet paper roll.”

“That men somehow managed to convince the world women are the emotional sex is the biggest scam of all time.”

My Review

After reading Offside, the first book in the Rules Of The Game book series, I couldn’t wait to get started on Shutout to see how the story continued for these characters I grew to love. The second book follows the roommate and teammate Tyler, of the MMC in the first book as well as his sister. I haven’t read many brother’s teammate books but everyone I have read I’ve loved, including this one. I didn’t get to learn too much about Tyler from the first book, just that he’s a goalie and mostly keeps to himself. I really like Tyler’s character and seeing him learn that there’s more to life than just hockey and having that balance is really important. Seraphina was an entirely new character and I fell in love with her. I loved how she wasn’t interested in a relationship until Tyler and her obsession with pink everything. I also really appreciated the ADHD representation this book had and loved what it brought to Seraphina’s character. Her and Tyler were such an easy relationship to root for and I can’t wait to continue the series when the third book comes out. I rate this book 4/5 stars and recommend it to anyone who loves a brother’s teammate, forced proximity, hockey romance.

And that’s the end of my Shutout by Avery Keelan book review. If you read this book let me know in the comments and if you loved it as much as I did. If you’re looking for other books to read check out these reviews: OffsideLove, Beauty & Soul, and Holiday Ever After.
