Author

Chelsea Curto is a USA Today best-selling author of dreamy spice filled romances. Chelsea’s books are full of fun banter between the strong female leads and the men who fall head over heels for them. She’s originally an indie author, however, her books are now getting traditionally published due to the outpouring of love romance fans have for them.

Plot

Hudson Hayes, star defenseman for the DC Stars, needs help. He’s been looking for a private chef for months but keeps coming up short. With the NHL season starting and no prospects in sight, he’s close to giving up. Madeline Galloway needs a job. Recently let go from her executive chef position in Las Vegas, she’s desperate as can be when she reaches out to an old acquaintance about a possible job opportunity…. in DC.

After hitting it off with her prospective employer, the blond hockey star who seems to have a heart of gold, she and her daughter, Lucy, make the move east. The rules were simple: no personal relationships. No falling for the romantic guy who always made her smile, even if they were living together and spending all their free time with each other. But after a kiss on New Year’s Eve, everything changes. The lines blur. Being Hudson’s friend—and only his friend—is the last thing on her mind. And when Hudson learns American Sign Language for her daughter? It might be a slap shot to the heart.

Quotes

“I swear the only thing hotter than a guy with a kid is a guy wearing a backward hat.”

“I’d rather be a sinner with her than a saint with anyone else.”

“Loving you is easier than anything I’ve ever done. It’s like breathing. Something that comes naturally.”

My Review

After glimpses of Hudson in the previous two books in the D.C. Stars series I couldn’t wait to get to read about him in Slap Shot. Hudson really is the sweetest guy and the perfect MMC. He’s so caring and generous and just wants his loved ones to be happy. The way he made Madeline feel so comfortable in a new city with a new job was so great. I loved how Madeline was so willing to do anything for her daughter to have a better life, including moving somewhere else and starting over. I loved the ASL representation in this book and I learned a few things about it that I didn’t already know. Hudson and Madeline’s relationship was a slow burn but I still really liked the build up and how well they worked together. I rate this book 4/5 stars and recommend it to anyone who likes slow burn, chef/client, and hockey romances.

And that’s the end of my Slap Shot By Chelsea Curto book review. If you read this book let me know in the comments and if you loved it as much as I did. If you’re looking for other books to read check out these reviews: The Friend Zone series, Trust Fall, and Fever Dream.
