Author

Jenni Fletcher is an author originally from Scotland, but now lives in the north of England with her family and dog. She’s known for writing historical romances and Formula 1 romances. She has also won two Romantic Novelists’ Association Awards and teaches creative writing at Bishop Grosseteste University.

Plot

F1’s resident bad boy Giovanni Bauer isn’t used to losing, but when the headlines of his non-stop partying and bad relationship with his teammate leaves his position on the team at risk, he needs to turn his reputation around and fast.

Maisie Evans is a dedicated phycology student interested in the world of professional sport but unsure how to break into it after leaving her previous dream as a competitive biker. When Gio and Maisie have a chance encounter it seems the answer to both of their problems is to fake a relationship. Maisie gets to travel the world and meet the people working behind the scenes that can help her reach for her dreams. While Gio gets to fix his image by settling down with the nice girl next door.

But when sparks fly between them, will they cross the finish line together or crash and burn apart.

My Review

I’ve only read one F1 romance before this book so I was excited to see if I like this book and I really did. I’m such a sucker for a fake dating romance and I think this one was done really well. I loved the extra aspect of fake dating in the public eye and really needing to sell it for everyone and not just a few people. The MMC Gio is such a misunderstood character and I loved getting to know who he really was and why he was acting the way he was. It was so clear that he really cares for the people he loves and just wants to do right by them. Maisie was such a complex character with a difficult past. It was nice to see her do something so out of her comfort zone. She really needed the growth and I loved seeing her journey evolve. Gio and Maisie were such a fun couple to root for and I loved reading about their fake dating journey. I rate this book 4/5 stars and recommend it to anyone who likes fake dating, and F1 romances.

And that’s the end of my Lights Out by Jenni Fletcher book review. If you read this book let me know in the comments and if you loved it as much as I did.
