Author
Hannah Brohm graduated with PhD in neuroscience before returning to her love of writing by creating this swoony STEM romance novel. She was born and raised in Germany, before moving to Portugal, the Netherlands, and New York. She now lives in London with her husband surround by her collection of books and hand-knit sweaters.
Plot
Neuroscientist Dr. Frances Silberstein is completely focused on her success in her field. Still pushing to succeed on her own after the breakup with her brilliant scientist boyfriend, she’s stuck in postdoc purgatory with no job security and no personal life. Francis is desperate to make a breakthrough and the summer conference packed with scientists is the best way to make a connection for a new job. The only problem is, it’s organized by her ex, who’s achieved far more success than she has. But backing out isn’t an option. Frances needs this conference to save her career.
Dr. Lewis North is her perceptive, meticulous, and unfortunately, a very attractive academic rival. When someone mistakes their academic snipping for flirtatious chemistry, Frances doesn’t deny it, which puts her integrity, and therefore her career in jeopardy. Frances realizes what a mistake she made but knows she needs to keep up the charade if she wants to continue her career and find a new job.
But soon, Lewis doesn’t seem as bad as Frances thought he was, and fake dating becomes but easier than she thought. When the fake dating doesn’t feel so fake anymore, Frances must decide what she really wants in her life, including love, science, and the future she always wanted.
My Review
I love discovering new authors, especially a debut like Hannah Brohm. I’ve been really into STEM romances lately and this one was so amazing. I loved Frances and her intense drive to succeed in a field catered to men. She was such an easy strong FMC to root for and watch her grow. I loved Lewis as the MMC in this story. He was a great match for Frances in the way he challenged her but also cared for her. The last chapter of this book had my eyes welling up with tears. I love when a book is so well written, and I care so much about the characters that it brings me to tears. This was such an amazing debut and I can’t wait to read more from Hannah Brohm in the future. This book was an easy 5/5 star rating for me and I recommend it to anyone who likes fake dating, forced proximity, and STEM romances.
And that’s the end of my Love And Other Brain Experiments by Hannah Brohm book review. If you read this book let me know in the comments and if you loved it as much as I did. If you’re looking for other books to read check out these reviews: Lights Out, Without A Clue, and Just For The Cameras.
