Weekend in Jasper Alberta

Weekend in Jasper Alberta

For my birthday on Monday June 25th my boyfriend and I had decided to take the day off since our work had been a little slow. A little later on we decided this would be a great time to head to Jasper for the weekend! Here is everything we did on our weekend in Jasper Alberta.

We ended up camping at Whistler campground. I’m not sure how we do it but every time we go to a campground there’s a bear issue! This time they let us know that they were on high alert because there is a mother bear nearby with her two cubs and 2 days before she came into the campground and killed a baby elk! And of course as we’re driving to our campsite we see about 5 elk in the road. We didn’t end up seeing any bear so it was fine. We’ve stayed at this campground before and didn’t any bears last time either. If you’re looking for a hotel instead of a campground check out the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.

Our first day, Saturday in Jasper we had planned to go on a hike. We really wanted to do a mountain peak hike so we found an easier one called Sulfur Skyline Trail. The trail says is 7.7km and takes about 4-5 hours to do. I had my Fitbit on and it said it took us over 11km and just under 4 hours. It was definitely a difficult hike but it was so worth it! I felt so accomplished getting to the top of the mountain and the views were great! The only thing I wasn’t so crazy about is there were quite a few bugs this day. I put on bug spray and that helped with the mosquitoes but there was some kind of black fly that wouldn’t leave me alone!

When the hike was over we went to the Jasper miette hot springs because it is right beside the entrance to the hike. We go there basically every time we go to Jasper and it felt amazing after that long hike.

On Sunday we wanted to relax after having a long hike the day before. We don’t have beaches here in Alberta so we wanted to find a nice lake that had a little bit of sand to sit on. We chose Lake Annette and it was gorgeous! The water was so clear! I love being able to see the bottom the entire time I’m swimming. I also expected the water to be freezing because a lot of the water in the mountains is fed by the glaciers and is so cold that it is difficult to touch with your hand. It’s safe to say I was ecstatic with this lake. Plus who doesn’t want to get a tan, have a nice swim, and stare at the mountains all day?

I absolutely love Jasper National Park. I would choose to go to Jasper over Banff anytime because they are both gorgeous but Jasper has less people which is a plus. You get better pictures and everywhere isn’t so crowded. Hope you enjoyed my weekend in Jasper Alberta post.
