If you follow me on Instagram or have read some of my resent posts then you’ll know in mid December I visited the Grand Sunset Princess Resort in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico which is where I also got engaged (see post here). So, in this post I decided to give a full review of the resort for anyone who may be looking into a Mexico all inclusive resort vacation.

Room
First, lets start off with the room at Grand Sunset Princess All Suites And Spa Resort. There are three different types of rooms you can get. There are: regular rooms, swim out suites, and villas. We got a swim out suite and it was absolutely amazing.
The room had a huge bathroom with double sinks, shower, toiler room, and a big jet tub. There was also a king size bed and a seating area. Then you go out onto your spacious deck and can walk down the steps right into the pool to swim or lay out on your own seat in the water.
Our room was actually in an amazing spot. It was just a swim to the main pool with the bar or a minute walk. This was the middle pool if you look at the resort map. There was actually also tons of monkeys in this area so keep an eye out for them if you go.
Pools
The Grand Sunset Princess resort has three main pools. One of the main pools is only for people who are staying in the villa’s so it’s more quiet. If that’s what you’re looking for a villa might be for you. However, most swim out suites are private as well. We were close enough to the main pool to hear the music and take a little swim there but it was definitely a little private if that’s what you want. There are two main pools that anyone can go to with bars, music, and entertainment. I was very happy with the pools on this resort.
By the way, if you are asked if you want to go to Coco Bango while you’re at the pool go! We went with a group of people and had such a great time! It’s basically a club with shows going on the entire time and I would definitely go again.
Beach
The Grand Sunset Princess resort beach in Mexico was actually really great. There was a beach bar and tons of chair to sit at. What’s nice about this beach is that it would be a long walk for locals to get to if they are trying to sell stuff. The last resort I went to in Mexico was full of locals yelling past the rope to try and get you to buy from them and this one there wasn’t any of that.
The water itself was really nice. It reminded me a little bit of the beaches in Prince Edward Island, Canada where I grew up except for the fact that the water was warm not cold. I would definitely go back to this resort for this great beach.
Food
There are so many options for food at the Grand Sunset Princess resort so I’m just going to highlight a few my favorites. There are a good amount of buffet restaurants open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For breakfast we went to the one by pool closest to the water everyday. For dinner we went to one of the buffets near the lobby.
For lunch everyday we just stayed by the pools. At our middle pool everyday they fried up hotdogs and hamburgers. I’ll be honest I expected the hamburgers to be really gross but they were actually amazing! I got one almost everyday (which explains the extra pounds I gained). And by the pool closer to the beach they had a taco cart. Everyday they had two options for you to choose from. The options I seen were: chicken, pork, steak and fish. My personal favorites were chicken and pork. They were so great and I’d be lying to you if I said I didn’t visit both places for lunch multiple times during the week I was there.
Now for the a la carte restaurants. These are just restaurants that you need to book ahead of time. I would suggest to book all the ones you want to go to your first day there because they can get booked up. There are so many options so there’s bound to be something you like. My fiance and I’s personal favorite was the Italian restaurant. The appetizers were great and we had pizza and pasta for mains which were also awesome! The desserts were of course also very tasty. We couldn’t decide between the 3 they were offering one day so our waiter said he would just take us all 3 to share and they were so good!
Resort
The Grand Sunset Princess resort is a very big resort so if you have issues with walking it may not be the best for you. However, there are shuttles that go up and down each side of the resort every 15 minutes so you don’t have to walk. I personally didn’t care about the walking and with all the food and drinks I had at this resort it probably would have been good for me to walk as much as possible.
The Grand Sunset Princess resort is full of animals. Like I said earlier there were quite a few monkeys that we saw. There is also tons of an animals called a coati. They do like to look for food so watch out for them. They might be in the garbage can you are trying to throw your garbage in haha. There were also quite a few lizards I noticed as well walking along the pathways. Apparently there is also an alligator near the beach that a lot of people saw but we didn’t end up seeing him.
One thing I really liked about the Grand Sunset Princess resort is how clean it was. Not only just being well taken care of after messy people but the fact that there was a lot of grass, trees, and flowers and everything looked great all the time!
Service
Lastly I want to talk about the service at the Grand Sunset Princess Mexico resort. Everyone who worked at this resort was so great and friendly. They honestly all seemed like they really enjoyed their jobs and I loved to see that. Service at any place no matter if it’s at a resort, restaurant, or even your dentists office can really make or break your time there so I can definitely say that the service at this resort was a positive in my books.
And that is my review of the Grand Sunset Princess resort in Mexico! I can definitely say that I would go back to this resort. We actually met quite a few people at this resort who were returning guests so I know I’m not the only one. This has made me even more excited for my trip to Mexico this summer, although I don’t think there will be an engagement in it for me 😂. Congratulations!
Haha thank you! Hope you have a great time 🙂
OMG this place looks amazing, I bet you would love to get back there tomorrow!
Yes I would love that 🙂
Sounds like an awesome place! We love Playa del Carmen but have never been to that resort. I remember the coati, weird animals, and kind of scary when they get too close!
Congratulations @ your engagement. When is the marriage? Or don’t know yet?

Thank you! The resort was awesome 🙂
What area was your room we want a swim up but I don’t want to hear the party pool all the time?
Only a couple buildings are actually close to the main pool. If you stay in rooms like the 3000’s like we did you can’t hear a thing 🙂
