Recently I took another trip to Jasper Alberta and decided to do a few hikes while I was there. This one I will be telling you about is the Pocahontas Mine Trail loop.

Location
This trail is located about 30 minutes outside of the town of Jasper on Miette road. The is also the road that has the Pocahontas cabins, campground, hot springs, and the sulphur skyline trail which is a mountain top trail I did a blog post on.
Hike
This trail has three different parts to it. You can decided to do as many as you like. The first loop is the smallest, it’s only about 1 km long and has a mine on it for you to look at. The mine is unstable and is collapsing inside so make sure you just stay on the outside of it. The cool thing about this first loop is that it is all paved so it is great to take someone in a wheelchair for easy access around.
The second loop brings you up to the punchbowl falls. This loop is about 2km long. If you don’t want to hike to this point you can drive up the road a little further and there is a parking lot you can go into and see it. The last part of this trail is a hike straight up to the Pocahontas campground. This part takes about 2km as well.
Difficulty Level
I would classify these quick trails as easy. They are very easy to get to and hike and they really don’t take long either. This is an easy location to take children or if your just looking for something on the quicker and easier side of hiking.
Let me know if you decide to check out the Pocahontas Mine Trail Loop hike and what you think of it. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay while in Jasper then check out Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.

A terrific story – cool pictures, has a “Blair Witch” vibe!
Looks like a great hike!! I haven’t been to Jasper in about 12 years, but it was such a beautiful place! If I get back there I’ll have to check it out!
Looks like an awesome hike. Easy enough that I could do it, even with my MS and I love the idea of finding a mine!
Thank you!
