Starting your email list as soon as you can is so important! You don’t want to miss out on anyone who may want to subscribe to your email list because you haven’t set it up yet.
The platform I use is MailChimp. I did a little research on which one to use and most bloggers were saying to use this one. I haven’t had any problems with MailChimp and I also find it very easy to use. You can do your own research and see if there’s another one you would like to use but I think MailChimp has everything you need and it’s free when you start up until 2000 subscribers! This way you can really establish your emails before you have to start paying.
I would suggest making a welcome email thanking your subscribers and telling them a little about yourself and your blog. I would also include an opt-in with this email. Now you may be asking “what’s an opt-in?” It’s something to get someone to want to sign up for your emails. I have a 5 day blog challenge for mine. So once you sign up it will be sent to you in the welcome email. You can have anything for an opt-in; printables, advice, ebooks, etc.
As far as what to send for emails and how often to send them depends on how often you post. I post about once a week so I only send out emails once every Monday to let my subscribers know about the new post. If you post multiple times a week I would suggest a weekly roundup of your posts. If your subscribers are getting to many emails this might make them want to unsubscribe, so keep it on the lower side to keep everyone you can.
As for how people can sign up for your email, you can use the popup ally plugin. I have this plugin set up to popup after someone has been on my blog for a minute. I would strongly suggest no quicker than that. I’ve been on many different blogs where they had the popup come up before I’ve read anything on their website! So obviously I didn’t want to sign up for emails for a website I haven’t even read yet.
I also have the link on my sidebar so it’s always easily found and at the end of every blog post so if my readers like it by the time they get to the end they have the choice to sign up or not.
Now get to it and build that relationship with your audience and drive traffic to your blog!
