Author
Chelsea Curto is a USA Today best-selling author of dreamy spice filled romances. Chelsea’s books are full of fun banter between the strong female leads and the men who fall head over heels for them. She’s originally an indie author, however, her books are now getting traditionally published due to the outpouring of love romance fans have for them.
Plot
Piper Mitchell needs one thing to go her way. Divorced, feeling stuck in her professional life and terrified of reentering the world of dating, she’s decided she’s going to work on something she can control: learning how to be good in the bedroom.
Enter Liam Sullivan. The star NHL goalie might not be a people person, but he’s the perfect teacher. He knows what he’s doing behind closed doors, and with a little convincing, he agrees to be Piper’s guide.
Things between them are casual and easy. Something they can both benefit from. And when a road trip to Vegas has Piper and Liam waking up from a night they can’t remember with matching wedding rings, they decide to figure out how much more fun they can have as husband and wife. It’s just for the hockey season. It doesn’t mean anything.
But as the clock ticks down on their fake-marriage-with-benefits, can Piper and Liam make it work in the real world? Or will their relationship be a power play straight to disaster?
Quotes
“She gives me that smile again. The one that makes me feel alive. Like I’ve been sleeping for thousands of years and now that I’m finally waking up, she’s the only thing I can see.”
“I have a crush on my husband, and that was not part of the plan.”
“A million lifetimes with her won’t be enough. It’ll never be enough. But fuck if I’m going to work until my body gives out to make sure every day is the best fucking day of her life.”
My Review
After reading Face Off I was so excited to get into Piper and Liam’s story. Piper was such an easy character to root for, especially knowing her unfortunate love life. Liam was such a grumpy character but the best thing about a grumpy man is when he falls for the girl that finally brightens his days. I loved how this book started as a friends with benefits/teaching relationship and accidentally involved into a marriage of convenience. It was obvious from the start how much Piper and Liam liked each other but I still really enjoyed following along and seeing them realize it and unable to fight it. This was a great second book to the D.C. Stars series and has me so excited to continue reading about more couples in this universe. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and rate it 4/5 stars. If you like fake dating, grumpy/sunshine, and marriage of convenience books then you’ll love this one.
And that’s the end of my Power Play By Chelsea Curto book review. If you read this book let me know in the comments and if you loved it as much as I did. If you’re looking for other books to read check out these reviews: The Bad Boyfriend Curse, Our Perfect Storm, and The Roommate Rule.
