My boyfriend Johnny and I went on an impromptu trip to Los Angeles California in May. One day we were looking up flights to Los Angeles and the prices were good so we decided to go before they increased! I’ll let you know what I did and give you some ideas for yourself if you decide to go someday as well.

Day 1 In Los Angeles
The first day we got up around 3am to fly to L.A. It’s always hard to get up that early in the morning but I love getting to my destination early enough in the day to still explore before going to sleep. Once we got to Los Angeles we took a bus to where we were staying. We stayed at Motel 6 right off Hollywood Boulevard. The prices at the time we stayed were actually pretty decent compared to most places so I would suggest checking them out if you go there.
After checking into our motel we went out for super then headed to the Dodgers baseball game. Neither myself nor Johnny have ever been to a professional baseball game so this was something we could both cross off our bucket list. However, we were exhausted from being up so early and flying all day so we didn’t stay for the entire game as we were falling asleep haha.
Day 2 In Los Angeles
On our second day we went to Universal Studios Hollywood. This was somewhere I was looking forward to going the most on this trip to Los Angeles. When we got there I really wanted to go to Harry Potter World first. I am the biggest Harry Potter nerd so this was basically the best day ever for me haha. We went on a Harry Potter ride where you flew around but honestly the best part was walking in line because it really looked like Hogwarts! I also got my own want at Olivander’s! It chose me and everything but then I lost it somewhere so that’s super depressing 🙁 There were lots of places to see here at Universal Studios. Some of my other favorites are Transformers, Minions, and Jurassic Park.
We also went on the universal studios tour. If you ever get a chance to do this I would definitely recommend! They have so many sets! There’s a lot of generic sets that are used and changed slightly for a lot of different movies and TV shows. They also showed us where the voice taps, the set of Bates Motel, and Who Ville from the Grinch! The coolest part I think though was the simulations they showed us. They showed stuff like how they make a thunder storm and a water fall. There was also a subway crash and a fire! It was amazing, and so crazy how they’re able to make this stuff happen and fix quickly as well.
Day 3 In Los Angeles
The next morning we got up for a hike at Runyon Canyon. If you follow anyone who lives in Los Angeles California you’ve most likely seen pictures of people at this hike. I must say this place really lives up to it’s reputation. The hike was great and the views were even greater! I would definitely go back.
After getting cleaned up we headed over toward the Art Museum in Los Angeles. We wanted to check out the park outside. The park is called La Brea Tar Pits. And it is exactly as it sounds. It’s tar pits. They have found thousands of fossils in these tar pits as big as mammoth fossils. This place was really cool and definitely something I have never seen before.
Next we walked over to the Grove. I’ve heard a lot about this place so I really wanted to check it out. This day was actually mother’s day so it was packed and also had some performances going on which was nice. Johnny and I each purchased a book at Barnes and Noble as well. We don’t have this book store in Canada so we wanted to see what it was like. I got a baking book and Johnny got a cocktail book.
After leaving here we decided to do some walking around on Hollywood Boulevard. Here we did some shopping, got some gelato and went to Madame Tussaud’s wax museum. This wax museum had some great people in it like Justin Timberlake, Elvis, Beyonce, and more. Hollywood Boulevard is a great place to just walk around and find places. But don’t get dragged into what people on the street are selling you though!
Day 4 In Los Angeles
Our last full day in Los Angeles California we saved for going to Venice beach. We got dropped off at Santa Monica place and looked around a little there before walking down to Santa Monica Pier. I loved Santa Monica Pier! We had planned to go on some rides after we were on the beach but we were to tired and burnt as you’ll soon find out haha. After looking around Santa Monica Pier we decided to go for a walk down towards muscle beach. On the way we had to buy sun screen as we took some to Los Angeles with us but forgot it at the hotel.
Obviously we didn’t put it on early enough or enough of it because we both got so burnt! We laid on the beach for a while then went for a little shopping at Santa Monica Place before going back to our motel and lathering up on the aloe vera. Click here to find out where we ate at Santa Monica.
Day 5 In Los Angeles
Unfortunately, day five was just our flight home. I had a great trip to Los Angeles California and would definitely recommend that you visit there. Click here to check out my other post about where to eat in L.A.

I haven’t been to LA for some years but really loved your posts!!
Sounds like you had a great time! I went to LA for a work convention and my experience was not as nice as yours! We stayed in downtown. The traffic was awful!!!!! I never want to drive in it again! I love your pics for sure! Maybe if we get the chance we will go and check out some places you mentioned. If you get a chance, go to San Diego. We have been twice and it’s amazing! Thanks for sharing!
I’m from the U. S. and I’ve never been to California! Lol. Whenever I I think of places I would like to visit places outside of the US come mind, but there are so many wonderful places to visit in my own country! Thanks for the post!
