Author

Chelsea Curto is a USA Today best-selling author of dreamy spice filled romances. Chelsea’s books are full of fun banter between the strong female leads and the men who fall head over heels for them. She’s originally an indie author, however, her books are now getting traditionally published due to the outpouring of love romance fans have for them.

Plot

Emerson (Emmy) Hartwell has waited for a spot on an NHL roster since she became a professional hockey player, and this season, she’ll finally get a chance to showcase her talents with the struggling D.C. Stars. Maverick Miller is the best player in the league, but he’s never been part of a winning team. Team captain and desperate to turn things around, he agrees to play nice with the fiery new left-winger even though they’re total opposites.

After a night of tension reaches a tipping point and they fall into bed together, Emmy and Maverick swear it was only one time. They just needed to get it out of their systems to help the team and can now move on. Except it happens again, and again. There’s no way this can work. Emmy doesn’t date hockey players and Maverick is a notorious playboy. They tell themselves this is just a friends with benefits arrangement, but is it?

Quotes

“I’ve always considered myself a feminist, but there’s something so goddamn sexy about a man in a backwards hat that has me ready to drop to my knees for the patriarchy.”

“You don’t give up on the things you love just because they get hard.”

“I never really felt like I had a home. But with Emmy next to me, I think home is wherever she is. A place I’d like to stay forever.”

“You are allowed to cry, but you’re not allowed to cry over shitty men. They don’t deserve your love and attention, let alone your tears.”

My Review

I’ve heard endless amazing reviews about the D.C. stars series so when I had the opportunity to listen to the ALC I jumped at the chance and I’m so glad I did. The book was amazing and the audiobook really brought the characters to life. I now fully understand everyones obsession with Face Off and Chelsea Curto’s writing. I love a book that features a strong independent female lead and Emmy was the embodiment of that. And of course, I always love a reformed playboy who falls so hard for his girl. Maverick really did fall first and harder and I loved that for the trajectory of their relationship. I loved their banter and the growth of their relationship from dislike, to friends, to being in love. This was such a fun book and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. This was an easy 5/5 star book and I recommend it to anyone likes reformed playboy, he falls first, found family, and hockey romances.

And that’s the end of my Face Off By Chelsea Curto book review. If you read this book let me know in the comments and if you loved it as much as I did. If you’re looking for other books to read check out these reviews: Not That Kind Of Proposal, How To Find A Guy In Five Weddings, and Love Song.
