How to Save for Travel

How to Save for Travel

We all love to travel but let’s be honest, saving for it and actually paying to be able to travel is the hardest part for a lot of us. I’ve recently been traveling a lot more so I wanted to share my tips with you guys. Hope this how to save for travel post helps you get on your trip.

Money Saving Tip #1

My first tip would be to get a travel jar. This can be where you put your extra change and bills that can be used towards your trip. Just make sure you don’t take any money out! Otherwise you’ll never have enough for a trip! Another way you can contribute to the jar is every time you buy yourself something you also put a percentage into the jar for your trip.

Money Saving Tip # 2

The way I currently save is through my bank account. I have another savings account that I contribute money to. I named it Mexico/New York because those are the next places I will be going but we haven’t picked our dates yet so I’m not sure which one we will be going to first. The current amount I have in this second account is $779.26.  I’m currently putting $19.23 into it every week and should have $1183.03 by the end of the year. Last December I went to a resort in Mexico that cost around $1050.00 so if I can find somewhere around the same price range I should have enough money to go to Mexico this winter! I’ve created a couple guides for you depending on how much money you want to save in a year. Pick the one best suited for you and stick to it!

Money Saving Tip #3

Don’t buy what you don’t need. My boyfriend Johnny and I want a bigger couch. However, the couch we currently have is fine. It has some scratches on it from our cat because it’s leather but other than that there are no issues. We went looking at couches a few times but all I could think was “Instead of buying this couch we could take that money and go to Mexico.” With this state of mind I’m definitely able to not buy the things I don’t need and keep saving my money.

Money Saving Tip #4

Another way to save up some money is by selling things you don’t use. This could be anything. It could be kitchen ware, it could be clothes or that workout machine you bought that you swore you would use every day but now it’s just a dust collector. I think a lot of us have been there. Any money you get from selling these things you don’t use can go into your savings and go into a trip instead of having items in your house collecting dust.

Money Saving Tip #5

My last tip for you guys is to create a budget. Figure out all your bills for the month including rent/mortgage, groceries, phone bills, etc. Then compare it to your income and create a budget for yourself. This will help you to learn how much you’re spending every month and know what you can cut back on. By doing this you may also be able to save a little more every month and keep your spending on track to use for your trip.

Hope these how to save for travel tips help you get closer to that vacation you’ve been dreaming of. If you want some inspiration for places to travel here is my current list of the places I want to go the most.

  1. Some really great tips. Does calling your savings account by the holiday destination help you visualise it more and keep you motivated to save and not spend?

  2. Great post! I would rather spend my money on experiences than “things”. I guess it all depends on what your priorities are 😃 I had a hard time leaving a comment on your post, hopefully I have not inundated you with comments 🤗
