Author

Cat Shook was born in Georgia, and graduated from the University of Georgia in 2016 with degrees in Creative Writing and Mass Media Arts. She now lives in Brooklyn. Cat Shook also worked full time as a literary agent while writing her first book If We’re Being Honest.

If you think you might like the writing of Cat Shook then check out her other book If We’re Being Honest which has great reviews by over 5,000 people on Goodreads. I’ve added this book to my list of books to read.

Plot

This book follows main character Presley Fry who works at the Late Night Show as an assistant and looks for comedians to pitch to the show. Presley has adopted a business casual approach to her dating life and isn’t seeking a genuine connection from besides her roommate and best friend Isabelle.

One day Presley runs into Susan Clark, a friend of her late mother who’s death she still struggles with. Susan is determined to be friends with Presley as well as to set her up with her single son Lawrence. If Presley ever was looking for a boyfriend Lawrence wouldn’t be even close to Presley’s type.

My Review

This book focuses more around personal growth and friendship opposed romance than I expected which I liked more than I thought I would. It does have a great romance story line as well though. If you love a slow burn with little spice this book is for you. I also love how the book is centered around New York City and the life of a woman in her 20’s navigating work, love, friendship, and grief.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I loved Cat Shook’s writing style. I really flew through this book and I can’t wait to read her other book If We’re Being Honest.

If you read it be sure to let me know in the comments what you thought about it. If you’re looking for other books to read check out these reviews: Granite Harbor, Hooked On Hollywood, The Spanish Love Deception and The Takeover.
