Girl, Wash Your Face By Rachel Hollis Book Review

A few months ago I read the book “Girl, Wash Your Face” by Rachel Hollis. I absolutely adored this book and it has changed my perspective on things in my life so much that I thought I would share with you a review on this book.

Author

Rachel Hollis is the amazing author of this non-fiction book. She’s wonderful because she uses her own experiences in every part of this book. She also doesn’t shy away from the truth of what she’s gone through in her life. She’s very real with you and so motivational in every chapter of the book.

Plot

This book is split into chapters of lies we are told about ourselves. In each chapter Rachel explains to us that lie in her life. And then let’s us know how she’s overcome it and realized that it is in fact just a lie.

Some of my favorite chapters to read were: I’ll start tomorrow, I’m not good enough, No is the final answer, I should be further along by now, I will never get past this, I am defined by my weight, and so many more! These are just a few of the chapters that really spoke to me personally.

One thing I really took away from this book was that I am in charge of my own life and it’s up to me to be successful and happy. I can do it all for myself and love myself while doing this.

Another thing that shocked me when reading this book was when Rachel asked us to list our priorities in life, so I did that. Then she asked if/where you were on your own list and I realized I didn’t put myself on my list at all. After reading that part of the book I have made a point to not only be on my priority list but be at the top. You can’t take care of anyone or anything if you don’t take care of yourself first.

Quotes

“Comparison is the death of joy, and the only person you need to be better than is the one you were yesterday.”

“Someone else’s opinion of you is none of your business.”

“You, and only you, are ultimately responsible for who you become and how happy you are.”

“Our words have power, but our actions shape our lives.”

“Your dream is worth fighting for, and while you’re not in control of what life throws at you, you are in control of the fight.”

“When you really want something, you will find a way. When you don’t really want something, you’ll find an excuse.”

And there is my review of this amazing non-fiction book. I could not recommend this book more. It really has changed my outlook on life for the better. If your having a hard time, this book will really help you to look at the important things in life and to want to make your life better. Just from this one quote that you mentioned – “Comparison is the death of joy, and the only person you need to be better than is the one you were yesterday.” – I know I’ll dig it because I’m constantly saying this. I might just have to purchase it now…
