Author

First off, let’s talk about the author of The Hating Game which is Sally Thorne. Sally is a USA today bestselling author from Australia. Sally Thorne published The Hating Game in 2016 and has also published two other books. She published 99 Percent Mine in 2019 and Second First Impressions in 2021.

I heard great things about Sally Thorne and The Hating Game so I had to get her book because I love romance novels and romance authors. This book doesn’t disappoint and neither does Sally Thorne which is why I think I will be reading 99 Percent Mine soon.

Sally Thorne has amazing writing style. I like that her chapters aren’t too long so it’s easy to read. I also like that Sally can make you connect to characters who aren’t perfect which is nice to see. A lot of books have so many characters that are completely protagonist so it’s nice that this book is a little different in that way.

Plot

Firstly, let’s talk about the main characters in this book. The first character is Lucy Hutton. She’s very short but her personality is huge. She’s very passionate, works hard, and isn’t afraid to stand up to her coworker Joshua Templeman. Joshua on the other hand is very tall. He’s also not a nice person and everyone in the publishing office is scared of him. Lucy and Joshua hate each other but unfortunately, they are the two executive assistants to the co-CEO’s of a publishing company.

Early on in the book the co-CEO’s announce there will be promotion up for grabs that both Lucy and Joshua want. This promotion pushes them both against each other more than ever before and is the start of the main plot of the book. This promotion has Lucy working so hard and bringing ideas forward that she’s never had the courage to bring up before. However, Joshua is in her way, and he’s not an easy opponent.

The publishing office decides to go on a team building paintball day. During this to Lucy’s dismay, she’s on the same team as Joshua so she’s not able to shoot him with a paintball gun. After the paintball game is over Lucy realizes shes very sick so Joshua takes her home to take care of her.

Lucy promises Joshua she will attend his brothers wedding with him as a buffer to thank him so helping her when she was sick and so they will be even and he won’t have anything to hold over her head. But what will happen at this wedding? Will they kill each other? Have a romantic night together and forget it ever happened? Or will they fall in love? And what happens when they get back to work and they’re up for the same promotion? Check out this book to find out what happens next for Joshua and Lucy.
